What Makes A Winner?

WHAT MAKES A WINNER?
The Business Angel a successful business woman who is also related to Olympic triple gold medalist and world record breaker Usain Bolt, shares some winning ideas to bring more success into your life.

The hopes and dreams of nations were recently played out on the world stage at the Beijing Olympic Games. The awesome feats of Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt have been truly inspiring.

1) Practice Makes Perfect
What we didn’t see at each Olympic event was the years of training that prepared them for that moment of glory. Whilst Bolt may seem like an overnight sensation, he has been in training for the last seven years, which requires enormous self discipline. When you want something, whether it’s a new job, studying for a qualification or even trying to lose weight – do you really put enough time and effort in; or are you a ‘I’ll do it later’ person.

2) Dream Team
Behind every successful person, whether a singer, athlete or business person, is a support team. Few people reach the top on their own. We all need coaches or mentors in our lives, it could be your mother, best friend or a professional business counsellor. They could be someone you admire; either dead or alive, whose story inspires you particularly when life gets tough – you can ask yourself ‘how would they have dealt with this’.

3) All That Glitters
Did you know most lottery winners are broke within two years of winning enormous cash prizes? That’s because they don’t have a winner’s mentality. When we’re given things on a plate; it has less meaning than when we’ve donated blood, sweat and tears. If you think money or fame will bring success, you will be sorely disappointed. It is defying the odds and showing the doubters that you can do it, is what truly counts and feels infinitely more satisfying. Ironically it’s usually after you have achieved; that money and fame will more likely follow.

4) Kid’s Talk
One thing we can learn from the little people in our lives is persistence. Take one of the little darlings out shopping and I guarantee you will buy or give them something, just to shut them up. It doesn’t matter what explanation you give them, they are unrelenting, constantly questioning and very challenging. You can take a leaf out of their book in order to reach your goals by asking yourself when you hit an obstacle. Why can’t I reach this goal? Why not? Who says I can’t do it? Why are they saying that?

Finally, remember that what makes someone a winner is entirely down to you the individual. It is completely subjective and personal – one’s man trash is another man’s treasure. What ultimately matters is that you feel contented and at peace with your lot in life and that you have led a life where you faced your dragons and managed to slay a few of them along the way.
